Shadowmoss Golf & Country Club, Charleston, SC

Good course with some challenging holes. Plenty of geese and ducks on the course that make it interesting and a mess at times. Does not drain well, so after plenty of rain, the course can stay soaked for several days. Staff are friendly and helpful and it is one of the only courses that offer a 9-hole price for those in a hurry, or playing late in the afternoon.

Played this past weekend. Fair layout, nice staff. Putting greens are in great shape and nice and fast and roll true. Easy to putt if you have the touch and can trust the line. 18th hole a lot of fun. Coming from Wescott this was a nice change of pace. Speed of greens comparable or Shadowmoss might be tad faster. Approach shots hold nicely as evidenced by the pitch marks. A fairly good venue.

I've played here a couple of times over the past two years and this was the worst shape I've ever seen the course in. Maybe it's because it's not peak season here in the South? The greens were all tore up. It did rain a lot recently, so I'll attribute the condition of the course in general to the rain, but the greens were in really bad shape. They were aerating the back nine, so we played the front nine once because it was in such poor shape, though I paid for 18 holes. Also, they absolutely rape you on cart fees since the green fee is so cheap this time of year. The green fee was twelve dollars, but the cart fee was twenty-two dollars. Seriously!?

It will a while before I play here again. I need to see how the course recovers over the next few months, then I'll happily review again.
