I was pleasantly surprised this weekend when I played Pebble Brook golf course for the first time. The weather was perfect and the tree lined fairways had a feeling of being in a southwest US golf course. It is not a common "cookie cutter" Utah course. Although it was a short course, the holes were challenging as most were elevated. The fairways were tight requiring straight tee shots and accurate approach shots providing many great opportunities for honing second shot skills. The greens were soft but produced smooth even ball speeds. I only played the front 9, but was very impressed. Matt greeted me and explained very well the answers to all my questions. My experience was totally different from other reviews that I read on this site. I will definitely be playing this course a lot more. Most par 4 holes are between 240 and 280 yards, but the scenery, the layout and the elevated greens made this a very rewarding and challenging experience. I have been playing Mick Riley when I don't have another tee time for accessibility, but I really like this course better, and am so glad I found this well guarded secret. I was able to walk right on without delay and was neither being pushed nor waiting for others to clear the green. I can tell that golf course management must have really paid attention to the comments on maintenance as the fairways and greens were in quite good shape. I actually walked the back nine last evening and took some breathe taking photos of some of the beautiful fairways and wildlife. Thanks Matt for explaining a little about the course, it's history and for dealing with me so professionally. I recommend that you get our and play this week while the weather is so perfect. My girl friend and I are going back out to play again tonight.
A few weeks back my cousin and I decided we wanted to golf. We went out twice, both times to Pebblebrook. Being inexperienced, we were very slow golfers, but we always let people pass us when they arrived at our hole. Our day of golfing took a long time, and we arrived back to return our golf cart just as night fell. The man at the counter told me there would be an $18 fee for each of us for taking so long golfing. I told him that it was my second time golfing and how we had always let people pass us when they caught up to us but it didn't affect him at all. He told me that I should have read the PGA tour manual, because apparently that's the first thing a new golfer does. I asked if he could provide any sign or binding statement anywhere that warned golfers of this late fee. He couldn't. It was just some random decision he made to charge us this money. The course is beautiful, though poorly maintained. But I won't be returning, and wouldn't recommend anyone else to based on how unprofessional and unfriendly the service was. We bothered no one with our slow speed and obeyed politely even when the groundskeeper told us to slow down our cart driving (we were not rallying the carts, just driving the rough roads too fast apparently).
