This is one of the nicest private clubs I've played. There are a couple goofy holes that seem to just be there because they had to fit 18 holes. Other than that, the course is fantastic has been in immaculate condition every time I've played it. The cool 17th hole is a long par 3 with a huge swale dividing the front from the back. This is no small feature...it is probably five feet deep, and the green itself is probably 60 yards deep. This hole will be instantly recognizable for any golfer who has played The Course at Yale, as it is basically a smaller version of Yale's famous 9th. The bunkers at Fox Chapel are deep, well placed, and have steep walls, much like other Seth Raynor designed courses. Any player with knowledge of golf architecture will appreciate the design and enjoy the course.
Good course but I did not like some of the bunkers. Many have very steep faces but there is not enough sand in the traps to allow one to get the ball up quickly enough to clear the face. I also did not appreciate one or two of the "goofy" holes. There is a 200+ par three with a 60 yard green that has a 12 foot deep swail running through the middle. I liked the course but I did not love it.
