When golfers talk about golf trips that they would like to take, Arizona is often on top of the list. The state offers many top-rated courses in addition to unique desert scenery. While in Arizona, golfers can enjoy hiking and sightseeing as well as a moderate climate that allows golfers to play year round.

Geography

The Arizona desert creates a unique golf course environment. Many of the courses offer spectacular desert and mountain views. The Phoenix and Scottsdale area is located near the Sonora desert, while Tucson is located in the Santa Catalina Mountains. Many visitors are surprised at the lush golf courses that contrast to the desert environment.

Features

Many of the courses are clustered in two major areas; the Phoenix and Scottsdale area and the Tucson area. In the Phoenix area, you can choose from several AAA five diamond golf resorts including the Camelback Inn, the Phoenician and the Boulders Resort. Phoenix also offers over 200 other golf courses, including several quality municipal courses.

One of the highlights of a golf trip to the Tucson area is playing at the Arizona National Golf Course. The Hilton Tucson El Conquistador Golf & Tennis Resort combines the best of a great resort and challenging courses.

Considerations

Since the Phoenix and Tucson areas are only two hours apart, you might be tempted to combine them into a single golf trip. But because of the number of quality courses in each area, you should take a separate golf trip to each location if possible. The Phoenix area is serviced by a larger airport though you can also fly directly into Tucson.

Benefits

One of the benefits of a golf vacation to Arizona is that you have the opportunity to experience a variety of courses. Many golfers may not have had the opportunity to play desert golf before their Arizona trip. While other golf destinations may have a few renowned courses, both the Phoenix and Tucson area offer many choices for championship level courses.

Time Frame

Arizona offers moderate year round temperatures, but the summers can be very hot. Be sure to consider the season when planning your trip. Keep in mind that although the winters offer great weather, the prices and crowds are higher during this time.

Choose the Right Wedge for Your Golf Game
by Staff
There's a reason why the distance from within 100 yards is called the scoring zone. It's the "make it or break it" area, where a great wedge shot can redeem a bad drive or poor approach to the green. Any miscue from this zone is considered an unforced error that should have been avoided (especially from the fairway). So, what's that mean? Choosing the right wedges can be the difference between one or more strokes on any given hole!
