Most top-of-the-line golf courses don't come into full maturity until they are somewhere between 10 and 20 years old. Siena Golf Course opened in 2000, so it may not have reached the pinnacle yet, but it has already gained a reputation as one of the top courses in Las Vegas. The course is a top challenge for even the best golfers, with 97 pot bunkers throughout the layout and triple-tiered greens making life miserable for even the best putters.

Features

The golf course has narrow fairways, and its greens are surrounded by hazards. Lake Siena comes into play on many holes, so the course puts a premium on accuracy. To make up for these difficulties, the greens are larger than usual and will help a golfer find relief at the end of a difficult hole. But just when the golfer thinks he can take a deep breath and putt without fear, he notices the triple-tiered green that demands precision and accuracy.

Geography

Play the beautiful 420-yard ninth hole right down the middle. The tee is elevated, and there are hazards to either side of the narrow fairway. If you try to go for extra distance you will be taking a huge chance, because there is a water hazard on the left and two deep bunkers on the right. The green is surrounded by two deep bunkers. The view from the tee is among the most memorable of all Las Vegas golf courses. The par-4, 448-yard fourth hole is probably the most difficult on the course. You are required to make a good but not great shot to make the fairway. After that, perfection is the standard. Anything off center will land your in the rough or a bunker. The green is treacherous.

Considerations

Make your reservations ahead of time when planning to play Siena. The cost for a round of 18 holes with the cart included is $155, but there are special promotions that can lower the cost. The 6,843-yard, par-72 course is not the longest, but it is challenging with hazards and difficult greens throughout.

Time Frame

Siena is a very popular resort, and the course can get quite crowded on weekends. Still, they keep the tee times very well regulated and it's rare that rounds will exceed more than 4 1/2 hours. Playing later in the day in the middle of the week can lead to a very snappy 3 1/2 hour round.

Benefits

In addition to the beautiful 18-hole course, Siena has a pro shop, a driving range, a putting green and outstanding dining facilities. Siena is a full-fledged resort, and you can book hotel rooms that are on site to quickly get out in the morning for a round or play a second round late in the day.

Choose the Right Wedge for Your Golf Game
by Staff
There's a reason why the distance from within 100 yards is called the scoring zone. It's the "make it or break it" area, where a great wedge shot can redeem a bad drive or poor approach to the green. Any miscue from this zone is considered an unforced error that should have been avoided (especially from the fairway). So, what's that mean? Choosing the right wedges can be the difference between one or more strokes on any given hole!
