Nike Karma 50 Compression Golf Balls

By Matt Manco

Nike Karma 50 Compression Golf Balls
Golf ball specialization has reached the point where companies target specific swing speeds and types. Balls designed to enhance spin share shelf space with balls designed to mitigate spin. The Nike Karma is a women's ball with the lowest compression number in their line of balls.

Karma

The Karma is Nike's first woman's ball, but the company has tried to focus on the benefits for all golfers with slower swing speeds. The 50 compression will add distance and a higher trajectory for slower swingers who struggle to get the ball in the air.

Low Compression

Low-compression balls help slower swingers get the ball in the air. The Karma, like the Wilson Staff 50, targets a large population of golfers with a resilient cover and workable feel around the greens.

Considerations

The Karma targets a very specific type of golfer such as short hitters and slow swingers, whose primary concern is adding distance without need for spin and green-side control.

Benefits

Because most players who will benefit from the Karma don't need more spin, it has few downsides. The Karma will help you have a more predictable trajectory into greens, and your control will benefit.

Price

The Karma retails for $28.99 as of October 2009, but various online retailers sell a dozen for $14.95.

How to Give Your Golf Clubs a Tuneup
by John D. Tudor
During the course of a year, an avid golfer's clubs are swung anywhere between 18,000 and 20,000 times, carried or hauled on a golf cart for about 3,000 miles, roughly handled another 1,000 times, tossed about the trunk of a car for over 20,000 miles and swung in a variety of less-than-perfect situations involving low-hanging branches, rocks and hardpan. Obviously, the stress and strain a golf club endures goes far beyond that for which it's designed, so now is the perfect time to examine your woods and irons and, if necessary, get them back into playing shape.
