Mackinaw Island Tourism
Mackinaw Island sits in between the Upper and Lower Peninsulas of Michigan. It offers a beautiful and restful retreat near both Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. Some of the most popular things to do on the island include golfing, bike riding, carriage tours and dining at some of the many great eateries on the island.

Getting There

Guests visiting the island can get there via ferry from Mackinaw City or St. Ignace. Riding is an extremely fun and exhilarating experience. Ferries to and from the island typically run several times a day.

Lodging

There are a variety of lodging options available. For a more elegant or luxurious experience, there is the historic Grand Hotel. There are also a number of family-friendly lodging options, including small inns, bed and breakfasts, and condominium suites for rental.

Dining

The island offers lots of tasty foods and treats. Some of the most popular island treats include Mackinaw Island fudge, popcorn and ice cream. A number of fine dining options are also available. These include French, Irish, Mexican and Southwestern cuisine.

Things to Do

In addition to fun activities such as golfing, horseback riding, bicycling or carriage tours, there are many other popular attractions. Some to consider include a visit to historic Fort Mackinac, Mackinac Island's Butterfly House and Mackinaw Island State Park.

Tourist Season

Because of inclement weather in the northern portions of Michigan, the active tourist season on Mackinaw Island typically runs from early May through late October.

Industry Experts Debate What Makes an Iron Easy to Hit
by Mike Chwasky
What makes an iron easy to hit? It's a question golfers and designers have been asking since the days of the Nicoll Cleek and Forrester Mashie. When it comes to drivers and woods, it's not nearly as mysterious. Big, light club heads, long graphite shafts and modern materials are easy to spot, and their functions are relatively obvious. With irons it's a different story. At first glance, most irons are almost indistinguishable from one another. Yes, some have longer blades or more offset, but for the most part, irons don't look that much different than they did 25 years ago.
