History of Ben Hogan Irons

By Bryan Manno

History of Ben Hogan Irons
Ben Hogan irons were introduced in the late 1950s and have evolved through improved innovation and technology.

History

The Ben Hogan precision irons originated in 1957. Since then, Ben Hogan irons have evolved in style and efficiency, with the latest version, the Apex Plus, released in 2007.

Types

Ben Hogan irons are available in cavity backs or blades. The cavity-back irons are designed for the recreational, higher-handicapped golfer, while the blades cater to the lower-handicapped, professional golfer.

Time Frame

The first set of Ben Hogan irons were unveiled in 1957, two years before Ben Hogan won his final of his 63 golf tournaments as a professional.

Considerations

When choosing an iron, a golfer relies on feel, control and performance. Hogan irons have improved over time to provide maximum efficiency in all three categories.

Famous Ties

Hal Sutton played Ben Hogan irons when he first came on the professional golfing tour in 1982.

Using Frequency to Test the Flex of Your Shafts
by Jeff Jackson
What's the flex of your shafts? At one time, a golfer could safely answer that his or her shafts were stiff, regular or ladies flex. That simply isn't the case any longer.
