Florida Golf Course Information
Florida golf courses provide the golfing enthusiast with a year round leisurely form of exercise and entertainment. Golf courses in Florida are designed for any player whether he is a club professional or an amateur just learning to appreciate the game.

Types

The standard golf course--although it contains different tee boxes to adjust for a golfer's handicap--often caters to the more experienced golfer. In comparison, the executive course provides a shorter, easier and less demanding layout for the occasional or recreational player.

Size

According to the National Golf Foundation, a traditional 18-hole golf course must be at least 5,200 yards long and at least a par 66. An executive length 18-hole golf course must be both under 5,200 yards and a par 65 or less. Colony West Golf and Country Club has both a champion golf course that plays 7,312 yards and an executive course that plays 4,207 yards.

Benefits

Florida golf courses remain open all year long. During the long winter months when family and friends up north are covered in snow, golfers in Florida can continue to enjoy themselves on the links.

Misconceptions

A round of golf is not expensive. During the summer season at Oriole Golf and Country Club in Margate, Florida, golfers can often play an afternoon round for as little as seventeen dollars. That was accurate as of 2009.

Fun Facts

Florida has more golf courses than any other state. According to Florida Fun Facts, there are over 1,370 golf courses in the state of Florida, and the city of Naples has the highest ratio of golf courses to people.

Golf Equipment Tip of the Day

How to Give Your Golf Clubs a Tuneup
by John D. Tudor
During the course of a year, an avid golfer's clubs are swung anywhere between 18,000 and 20,000 times, carried or hauled on a golf cart for about 3,000 miles, roughly handled another 1,000 times, tossed about the trunk of a car for over 20,000 miles and swung in a variety of less-than-perfect situations involving low-hanging branches, rocks and hardpan. Obviously, the stress and strain a golf club endures goes far beyond that for which it's designed, so now is the perfect time to examine your woods and irons and, if necessary, get them back into playing shape.
