Inexpensive Things to Do at Virginia Beach
If you're taking a break from enjoying some of Virginia's best golf courses, you can explore a variety of other activities at Virginia Beach, many of which will cost you little to nothing at all.

Beach Street USA

The oceanfront offers live entertainment at no charge during the summer, including performances by jugglers, puppeteers and magicians. Throughout the year, live outdoor music concerts and plays are presented for free.

Nature

First Landing State Park offers parking for passenger vehicles for a small fee; once inside the park, you can explore hiking trails at no additional charge. Children under 6 can ride free on the Natural Tunnel Chairlift, while others can view the 2,888-acre park for only $3 a round trip, as of late 2009.

History

Historic homes from America's early Colonial days are open for public tours. The Ferry Plantation House and the Adam Thoroughgood House are two of these homes, and charges range from $5 to free for students.

Amusement Park

The Virginia Beach Amusement Park has one of the only Skyscraper extreme thrill rides in the world. The park doesn't have an admission fee, but rides require tickets that cost 70 cents to $1.

Lighthouse

You can tour the original Cape Henry Lighthouse, built in 1791, for $3 or $4, with no charge for children under 3. Here, you will see Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean from 90 feet above ground.

How to Give Your Golf Clubs a Tuneup
by John D. Tudor
During the course of a year, an avid golfer's clubs are swung anywhere between 18,000 and 20,000 times, carried or hauled on a golf cart for about 3,000 miles, roughly handled another 1,000 times, tossed about the trunk of a car for over 20,000 miles and swung in a variety of less-than-perfect situations involving low-hanging branches, rocks and hardpan. Obviously, the stress and strain a golf club endures goes far beyond that for which it's designed, so now is the perfect time to examine your woods and irons and, if necessary, get them back into playing shape.
