Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, got its name from the wax myrtle shrub that grows plentifully in the area. It is a popular destination for vacationers. Many come to enjoy the beaches, weather and attractions. Many more come to play golf.

Considerations

There are more than 100 golf courses in Myrtle Beach. Many are challenging and very beautiful. Some have been designed by famous golf professionals and architects, including Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones and Greg Norman.

Top Courses

Golf Digest lists the top golf courses in Myrtle Beach. Topping the list are: Barefoot Resort; The Dunes; Ocean Ridge; Caledonia Golf & Fish Club; Tidewater Golf Club and Plantation; Heritage Club; True Blue Gold Plantation; TPC of Myrtle Beach; Bald Head Island Golf Club; The Reserve; DeBordieu; and Grande Dunes.

The Legends

The Legends is a resort that offers six award-winning courses. It is home to the only five-star course in the area, the TPC of Myrtle Beach. It is an all inclusive and exclusive resort.

Packages

Many courses offer golf packages that include lodging, green fees, cart and other amenities. A specific golf package can be customized to suit the beginner golfer, novice and expert.

Weather

The peak vacation months are July and August. The weather is very warm during the summer months and remains mild year-round.

What's the flex of your shafts? At one time, a golfer could safely answer that his or her shafts were stiff, regular or ladies flex. That simply isn't the case any longer. Most manufacturers have their own method of shaft measurement. What this means is that one company's "R" flex shaft may actually be softer than another's "A" or even "L" flex. How, then, can a golfer select the appropriate shaft if no manufacturing standard exists? In a word: frequency.
