After 25 years most of the rounds I remember involve travel. By no means have these rounds been my lowest
scores that doesnt seem to matter.Last weekend my wife and Iwent to borrego springs in the california desert.
We drove 140 miles listening toa mystery on tape arrived saterday at noon  drove a dune buggy for couple of hours then ate a late lunch at the palms hotel we then took a nap  showered and headed out to carleys for dinner
we didnt know it was karoke night. A nice meal and a few drinks later,no we didnt sing we headed back to the palms hotel. During dinner it started to rain a rarity in the desert  by the next morning 3 inches of rain had closed
every course in town and after breakfast rumor had it road closures were eminent . We beat it back to the coast where we found partly cloudy skies and a nice breeze, so we played  9 holes then got subway for dinner . Hotel an 4 meals out $200.00, a tank of gas at 3.20 a gallon,a round of golf within view of the house priceless

Geeeeeze, are you lot lucky in the States? Our fuel is currently costing $8.60 per UK Gallon. It is sold in litres, what a con that is! Your $200 is worth £100, which won't buy much over here.
I think I'll Immigrate, any room for 2 more (the wife you know)?

I enjoy playing different courses every chance I get and know what you mean. Here in rural Iowa, courses (and towns) are generally about 25~30 miles apart, so there is some travel involved even to play the closest ones. My "home course" is 22 miles from where I live.

Now I get to make you jealous. I retired the first of this year and plan on playing in a sort of seniors league (55+ age) this summer. Most of the 30 or so courses within 75 miles of me are part of this unofficial league system so there is a wide variety to play over the summer. Every Monday morning, a different course hosts the players. The day consists of 18 holes of golf with cart, and a meal after the round. Total cost for the day is $16 plus gas. :-) With the savings, I can afford more blended whiskey and ice tea (from tea bags of course, with lots of sugar).

These are by no means "world class" courses, but some in the larger towns are pretty nice. My home course has fairways like the first cut of rough (or worse) on the PGA, and our greens are more like PGA fairways (deer footprints can be a problem). Of course, membership fees are $400/yr with cart shed. But hey, it's golf, and I love it. Besides, Zack Johnson learned to play in Iowa.
