Snow is a 4 letter word
Posted: Feb 4, 2008 | 12:53 PM PST

Those fluffy little six sided crystals are so pretty when they first start in November.  Harbengers of season change that brings back fond childhood memories of building snowmen and sled rides.  I'm sure the German army felt the same in Nov of 1942 at the siege of Stalingrad.

General Paulus surrendered after three months on Feb 3.  It is now Feb 4 and I refuse to surrender to these little hexagons from hell because there is a good chance I will live long enough to see green grass again.

Paulus had the entire Russian army trying to kill him.  I have a more serious  problem.  For Christmas/retirement, I received a set of r7 woods, 1-3-5-7, and there is no place I can even take a practice swing without the fear of breaking something or damaging a club.

I've heard rumors that there are places (probably not on THIS planet) where people can play golf 12 months a year.  There has to be a special place in hell for people like that because they have certainly had more than their fair share of heaven while they were alive.  :-)

Wow, you are really suffering. Is the not a range near you, where you can swing out at least?
Where is the old spirit of the 101st? Those "Battered Basterds of Bastogne" were able to endure the snow! (they have my deepest respect & admiration)

If I may safely adapt the sacred text to suit the occasion: "Those who wait on the Lord [to melt the snows, change the seasons, reopen the golf courses] shall mount up on wings of eagles [and shall hit their new r7 woods with vigor]..." Each day brings it closer, Alcyone.

I appreciate your support gentlemen. The closest indoor practice range is about 2 hours away, but I am about ready to make the pilgrimage. A week ago it got up to almost 60*F for one afternoon here and started to melt the snow. The next morning, it was -2*F with a 45 mph wind, and what little melting there was turned into a layer of ice on top of the snow. Our forcast for today is another 3 inches of snow.

It could be worse...as many a Canadian has pointed out to me in the past. In the mean time, I'll try to keep my chin up and my head down.

I live near Louisville, KY, and Friday, I remember watching (depressingly so) a mixture of snow and sleet race across the parking lot of the McDonald's while I waited in the drive-thru line. The wind was gusting to over 30 mph and it was just plain miserable. But now, as I type this, it's a record-setting 72 -- but with a substantial rain system accompanying the warmth. We're expecting severe stuff overnight, followed by a return to winter weather. I never liked February because it's just like a woman. It can't make up its mind on what it wants to do.

You must have had the same front move through that we did. I was at the driving range monday at 75 degrees in shorts and gold shirt. Went out at 6:00 to play indoor trnnis and the temp on my car thermometer was 23 degrees. I love the midwest.... I guess a tornado here and there is better than hurricanes, mudslides (not the ones made with rum) and wild fires.
