Clubs with "Forgiveness"
Posted: Apr 20, 2008 | 7:03 PM PST

Among the assortment of modern technical wizardry in golf clubs, like "perimeter weighting" and such, we find the purely philosophical-sounding feature, "forgiveness."  Now, I know what it technically means, but I'm intrigued by the word choice itself.  It's great -- I wonder who came up with it?

All I know is, if some clubs are forgiving, mine actually hold a grudge!

I've overheard them talking about it, there in the bag at night.  The 3-wood says, "I remember how often he's cursed me to my face, as though his misses are my fault!  Well, just watch what I do.  When he closes my face, I'll open it.   When he swings on plane, I'll twist outside-in.  When he tries to trap the ball on the downswing, I'll flatten out so he tops -- or even whiffs!  Ha ha ha!"

And the irons answer,"Well, I'm so sick of him chunking me, getting my grooves all filled with mud!  I'm gonna make his hands sting on every shot, and turn his fade into a banana."

Even the glove has gotten into the act.  "I'm working on a hole in the palm..."

So, how much do these forgiving clubs cost?

LOL @ "hold a grudge". I know the "forgiveness" phrase has been around since I bought my Ping Zing clubs in the early 1990s, and they revolt against me from time to time.

Pastor Mark that is funny stuff, and we all need to be more forgiving to the clubs themselves, LOL instead of wanting to throw them to get their attention.

To answer your question, "so, how much do these clubs cost," I paid $399 for my Nike Slingshot 4D irons on ebay. They were brand new in the factory box and plastics. I've seen the same irons in the PGA tour superstore for $599 for steel shaft (like mine) and $699 for graphite.

I think my clubs have the opposite conversation at night. They remember how well I treat them, how I clean them after each round, protect them from the elements when they aren't being used, not allowing them to bang off each other, and blaming myself for faulty shots. So, the last three months that I've been using them they have been really good to me. My irons say "you know this guy is pretty protective so his reward is great shots." Then my driver answers "yeah that's why I kept him in the fairways all day." NOW, my 3 wood is my rogue club. "you guys enjoy all that grass, I'm going on a safari and I might even go swimming a few times." He and I are currently in negotiations.
