The doctor was up front when he told me the biopsy of my prostate was 'positive' . . . and that he wanted to be aggresive with treating the cancer. So in December of 2007 I had the prostate removed and have fully recovered - and am still cancer free as spring approaches in 2009.
Golf had always been something I enjoyed doing . . . but I usually only played maybe 4-5 times a season . . . which can be somewhat short in Northern Nevada. Following my recovery I was determined to play more . . . establish a handicap . . . and try to improve my game.
I have been able to do so this past season - joining the men's club at the Sierra Sage Golf Course as a good friend was the elected President of the club. While I never played in any of the organized tournaments the club held . . . I was able to join my oldest son for many rounds this past summer. We were also fortunate to visit my sister-in-law in Saint Augustine, Florida over the Christmas holidays and plays 4-5 rounds at the World Golf Village.
My scores are routinely in the lower 100's . . . but I take great pride in having shot under 100 a half dozen times since last spring . . . and also am quite proud of the fact that I was able to post a better score than brother-in-law (who lives at the 'King & Bear' course in Florida and has had many private instructional sessions over the years) during three of the outsings we had in Florida.
I don't know what the future holds . . . but I AM cancer free . . . have rejoined the men's club for the next season . . . and am lookiing forward to doing something I truly enjoy . . . !!!
