Broken Hand Rehab

So I broke my hand (5th metacarpel bone) about 4 weeks ago and my cast just came off 2 days ago. Not surprisingly, my hand is still sore and very stiff. I'm not sure how long will take before I can get my swing back, but I have about 3 weeks to get back in shape before a friendly golf tournament. I'll be posting my progress here over the next few weeks.

I look forward to hearing about your progress! Hopefully your progress will help others that may have the same problem to know what to do to get back to the game they love!

I went mountain biking this weekend. The trail was very technical and steep. My hand was sore, but I actually think it helped out my rehab as my hand is much more flexible and strong today. I'm going to hit the range this week and will provide updates on how it goes.

So I hit the range this morning and my hand felt good. Fortunately, it's my right hand and not my left. The soreness of my right hand is a nice reminder to ease up on my grip.

Anyway, my hand didn't seem to affect my swing. In fact, it was one of my best days at the range this year. I was hitting it very straight and was consistent in length. I hit the 130 yard green twice as much as I missed it, which is good for me. In fact, my hits were close to the pin and my misses weren't off by much.

I think my good outting had more to do with the time off than anything else. I've noticed that I swing well after taking some time off from playing. I'm not sure why. Perhaps it gives me a chance to not think about it too much.

The only issue I had was fatigue. I only hit 64 balls, but I started getting a little sloppy after the first half. So I think it's going to be hard to play 18 right now.

Going forward, I'm going to try to get to the range 3 times per week and play the 9 hole executive course a few times before going out for 18.

I haven't made it back to the range since my last post, but I'm going to try to make it to Suncadia this weekend to hit a bucket of balls. I have two golf outtings scheduled for next week, so it's time to get my swing in shape!

So I'm finally back to 100%. I played twice last week and felt strong. Though, I still notice that my hand feels a bit awkward at times, it doesn't seem to affect me when I play now. Whew!
