I bought my clubs at a garage sale several years ago - Ben Hogan Apex irons - they're over 35 years old. I hit them pretty well and am learning to shape shots with them as well.

I can't help but wonder whether it's time to upgrade to more modern equipment and perhaps to better performance.

I really like my irons but wonder if maybe I'm shortchanging myself. Perhaps I can get a fitting and have my clubs "tuned up" to better suit me - maybe get them re-chromed? (they do look like hell)

I finally replaced the woods with a Slazenger Raw Distance driver, 3-metal and 4-hybrid and am happy with the results.

I look forward to any and all feedback

I see two different ways of looking at this. If its not broke, don't fix it, but at the same time, golf technology has vastly improved over the past 35 years. i woulf expect that you would find greater consistency and likely distance with newer, fitted clubs. i would suggest going out to a demo day at a nearby course and get a feel for the what is currently out there. A lot of the sports superstores offer customers the opportunity to "test drive" some clubs as well.

After careful consideration, I've decided that I will upgrade my irons. Ultimately what convinced me was a set of Nickent 3DX irons I purchased for my son as a graduation present from rockbottomgolf.

I've been having trouble establishing gaps in the distances I get with my 9, PW and SW. They all seem to go about the same distance - 100yds- with considerable effort on my part. My son and I took our bags to the range so that he could test drive his new irons. My kid is a lefty, and told me to have a go with the 10 iron (this set included a 10-iron). Not being a lefty I didn't have much faith I'd connect let alone launch it over 120 yds with an effortless swing.

I've searched online and found a set of Ben Hogan BH-5 irons that are reasonably priced - however they are stiff shaft only. Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about the BH-5's? Stiff vx regular flex shafts? They are tauted as being forgiving yet still allow for shot shaping. The brand just happens to be what I'm using now, I have no preference otherwise.
