Hey all,
I am wondering if anyone has had a good experience with any of the golf applications/trackers on the iPhone. Some of them are a big investment ($20) for a simple stats tracking/score card replacement, but my interest is peeked. I've been hoping for a golflink.com implemented app something that could automatically upload a round to my account, but who knows if something like that for golflink would ever surface. Anyway, does anyone have one of the golf apps and do you like it? or am I going to face the typical use a free pencil and score card bit?

Updating this thread. I finally caved a month or two ago and anted up for one of the 20 dollar apps. I got "TeeShot" and the verdict is: it is very good and feature rich. They updated the app to include group scoring which is what sold me on the application. The interface is easy to use, download of courses is quick and easy. Entering your own course if you can't find it online is a bit of a long process to do it right, but it is worth it and you can submit it for others to use. There is plenty of stat tracking to be had including fairways hit, where a ball landed, GPS (personally untested), number of puts. It automatically tallys scores standard and stableford scoring. You can also backup your scores to a server in case your phone crashes, mine has not so I am not sure how well this works.
I have only one complaint which could be added at a later point which is the ability to email scorecards.
Cheers, -J

I like Fairways Golf a lot. It's a course database for the United States. Good look and accurate information.

this is an interesting topic. i like Scorecard Golf (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa /viewArtist?id=289686268) quite a bit - easy user interface to input fairways hit, etc. unfortunately you need to buy the software for $30 to sync it with your desktop. i like the MyGame feature on Golflink so that is why i like this app.

Dont any of you feel that you spend enough time with electronics? I tried a few of these products and I find that when Im plugged into the yardage I dont notice the breeze or the slopes. I am always amazed when I see a guy fretting on the course with his face stuck in to one of those things. For me part of the fun in golf is getting away from electronics and enjoying the outdoors. Any feeling on this? Would the next logical thing be a speedometer on your shaft

I have a speedometer on my shaft. It's called the medicus powermeter!
It's not distracting at all. it speeds up the game. don't have to waste time finding sprinkler heads (my course doesn't have them marked anyways) not to mention having an exact yardage when your in the other fairway (hey, it happens to all of us sometimes) is great. Then you take into account uphill/downhill and wind conditions.
The ones that have additional featuers like my golf guru which lets me track my score is great because there is a lot of downtime during a round. waiting on a tee box, walking to my next shot, so on and so forth. using the mark feature gives me a nice idea of how the ball is carrying based on the air temps and the wind so early on in the round I have an idea of what to expect from all my clubs

Dont you have friends to talk trash to when you play or cocktails to drink. Also we dont all hit the ball in adjacent fairways the courses I play dont have adjacent fairways unlike that plowed under beet farm you call a golf course. I guess the real question is which hand do you hold the golf guru in. I dont know dude you dont see pro players using those things and yes I know they have caddies that figure all the yardages for them but if you hit the ball in the fairway it shouldn't be that tough.
