you may want to search the forum for gps or skycaddie. I know there was a recent discussion on this although it may have started in a thread about something else entirely. from what i remember, everyone basically said some kind of gps is the way to go, makes life so much easier and def gets better scores. also knowing front, center, and back of green really helped the most in club selection.

yup and that psot was a question about which one to buy....
this one is why haven't you bought one
or has it helped you so far.

so why haven't golfers bought one yet....????
250.00 seems like a small price to know and get better...
I can tell you that I have dropped 2 strokes on avg so
far by using these and would not play without it now...
BUT, it doesn't make the shots go straighter or get there, so
that is the downside I suppose, you still have to play good.
I'm trying to keep this going.

i totally agree with you. You need to get to a certain level of skill before a gps unit is truly going to help you. you need to be a fairly consistent ballstriker. even though i play the same 2 courses 80% of the time, i'd love to have one for times i hit a big slice or hook on a par 3 and i'm pin high but 40 or 50 yards away. or for those times that i slice onto the other fairway and need to know the distance to the green. Personally, i haven't bought one yet because the one i want costs 250 bucks and that is a bit out of my range but i do plan to get it very soon.

I've heard good things about them and want to and plan to get one soon. But as I just recently got back into the game after 6 year or so lay off. I splurged on a few new clubs to complete my bag. So that put me back enough in cash that I am waiting on the gps. Also as you have said, it only helps people with some skill, and I'm still working on getting my shot consistent enough where it will help me.

But I don't see how a GPS wouldn't be anything but good for someones game. They offer so many useful to know information. Also they are in no way really cheating as top players have that information at their fingertips in their notes and all. It also I would figure would help a lot at a new course. Right now I bought a Victory Golf Pass, and therefore I can play tons of different courses. Not being familiar with them, a GPS would really help a first play through a course.

I just recently bought a Golflogix unit recently and tried it out for the first time. One thing I have become aware of is how far off I have been about estimating my yardage using the fairway markers. Especially when the ball strays off the fairway. This particular unit was not my first choice, but it the yardage changed in realtime as I was moving on the course. It definitely shaved some time on my guess work. I normally walk my home course so it appeared to take off a 15-20 minutes off my pace. For the first time I wasn't too long or short because of bad yardage guesses.

I'm in the minority-I like calculating my own yardages. Too much of a traditionalist I guess.
Probably need to pull the 8 track out of the car dash and upgrade to one of those newfangled cassette decks!
