Was the course set-up fair to Rocco in the playoff?
Yes, they both played the same course, that's golf.

No, the use fo the forward tees unfairly favored Tiger's length.

I enjoyed the open and Rocco's tenacity was impressive under the crushing shadow of Tiger. It was great to see someone stand up and pose a real head-to-head challenge.

But I was disappointed to see the forward tees used on the golf course, particularly on 18, the hole that eventually determined the outcome.

When there's a full field I don't think the short par 5's are a real advantage to anyone. But when it's on-on-one, and one of those two can hit it 50+ yards farther off the tee than the other, I feel there's definitely an advantage to the longer hitter. The USGA helped put a 5 iron in Tiger's hands on 18 (granted Tiger himself had something to do with it) which really took the water out of play for him.

My opinion? Without a doubt, I feel the course was set up to favor Tiger in the playoff.

What do you think?

Did it favor Tiger, yes. Was it done solely to give Tiger an edge, of course not, he's Tiger Woods, that's enough of an edge.

If anything I think the course was set up for just the opposite. Not to favor anyone. On any other course some of the shots these guys hit would have been close to the pin, on the green, or more spectacular shots. Take Phil's 9 on Saturday. Any other time he would have put that ball very close to the hole. This course was set up so that par was going to be the score for everyone.

The USGA definitely wouldn't set up a course to favor a golfer, IMO. The tee's were being moved all weekend, no rule that says they have to leave 18 alone.

Can we complain that some of the "par 4's" were really par 5's for regular golfers? Does that favor Tiger because he hits the ball so far?

I was listening to The Golf Channel and they were talking about how the tees were picked in advance months ahead of this tournament and how the director (or whoever chooses tees and hole locations) set the course up by his first to fourth favorite locations and tees Thursday through Sunday and his fifth favorite was what they played on Monday. Advantage=USGA!!! Great great golf tournament and playoff.

i dont even understand this question. How does using the forward tees favor Tiger's length??? Tiger can hit his driver 330 if he has too and can carry a 3 wood 260+. that right there is 590 yards and enough to reach nearly any par 5 in 2 shots. even if he only drives it 300 and carrys a 3 wood 230 thats still 530 yards and reaches a lot of par 5's

The very notion that the course was somehow set up to favor Tiger does nothing but take the spotlight off Rocco's performance -- the 158th ranked, 45-year old pushing the greatest player in the game to the limit and beyond, all the way to the last, sudden death putt. That's what that's about, and only that, IMO.

I love Rocco and his nods and ticks but he was over matched from the start. When I heard he had a lead with two to go I was hoping man was I hoping but Rocco lost the match on the 18th when he hit it in the sand . He needed to birdie that hole instead he had 132 yards for his third heck I play torrey now and then and I get a wedge for a third. Sure the par 5s favor Tiger but if Rocco had hit a good drive he could have gone for it as well.

I didn't watch at all but my friend was telling me Tiger played all/most of the tournament with micro factures in his knee, and is out indefinately. Is this true?

If this is true, no matter what the circumstances, Rocco lost to a gimp.

what really got me was the choice of the USGA to go
back to the 7th hole to start sudden death...
the 7th favored a slice which tiger likes...lol
why couldn't they just have started on 18 again
and again... its straight, long and the crowd was there.
that was weird if you ask me. 18 would have been just fine.
