The Golf Channel is for the elite not the masses. Look at the emphasis on events such as the Tavistock cup. Why not televise a "Ryder Cup" between 2 clubs (normal, not exclusive) from the U.S. and Europe? Instead of 18 you could have a 9 hole setup to cut down on the number of cameras, maybe not show every hole as well. Us mortals can relate to the bad shots and missed "tap ins." Show the Kansas sand green high school championships to show viewers that every blade of grass need not be in place. And it would be a great bit of Americana. Also with all the lighted golf courses, you could have a serious competition under the lights and during prime time. Why not compete with the reality cr (oops stuff) on other networks?

Don't give them any ideas. I think they've shown everything but the Kansas high school sand green finals in order to fill time this week.
I have to disagree about TGC being for the elite. It seems to me that they do everything they can to court "the masses" by catering more to the "reality tv" crowd than to people who just like to watch good golf.
How much actual shot making do you see on the Big Break without someone trying to stir up a controversy about who said what about who? The same thing exists in tournament coverage. Let someone say anything that can even remotely be construed as a slam on another player and see how many times they play that sound clip. Expecting the Golf Channel to present golf is like expecting American Idol to present a talent show. (I prefer to call it American Idiot and will say it for you...it's CRAP.)
Come to think of it, maybe having David Feherty and Simon Cowell analyzing swings would be intertaining. Especially if some top pro beat Cowell to death on camera with a sand wedge or something.

IF TGC were courting the masses, they would do some features on some of the great golf destinations in the Midwest instead of touting another $600 a nite resort in some island destination. Accd to Golf Digest's places to play, there are a lot of high end but low cost courses in IA, NE, KS etc. Much more so than in Margaritaville.

Dude, last time I checked, the Bolshevik revolution didn't turn out so hot.

How about because the Tavistock Cup features some of the very best golfers in the world? I'm not going to tune in to see Joe Schmo from the Kokomo Country Club taking on some average "Jacques" from Europe.
I kinda like this game the way it is. I agree the Golf Channel needs some tweaking, but let's keep it real with the golf anyway.
