Can anyone tell me about their success in applying the Ballard swing comcepts? Are there any instructors to go to besides him to get the same teaching?

My freind spent $30K.over a year span taking lessons from Ballard in 1986.In that year he went from a solid 2 handicap to barely being able to break 80! Took him another year to get his swing back. That tells me something.

Wow, $30k? I could have messed up his swing for $20k.

I have been to Mr. Ballard's school twice and he has helped me enormously with connection. Keeping the left arm on the body and the left elbow pointing down throughout the swing has kept my ball much more in the fairway than the rough. His connection theory will really help your accuracy. You don't have to worry about squaring the club face if you keep your left elbow pointing down.

Blasmaster: Thank you for your note. Unfortunately I can't open it and I was hoping you could post it to this site. I am really interested in other golfers experience with Mr. Ballard. I have everything he has produced. Books, videos, swing aids. The whole schbang. Thanks. 777777

Mr. 777777: I know Ballard wrote a book but did not know he had a video and swing aids. Where can I get them? Did you travel far to his school?

He made 2 videos. One quite a few years ago and then 1 in the 80's. The second one is very good. You can get them by accessing his site on Golflink. As well you will see his swing aids, chest connector and right hand glove. All of his suggestions are reasonably priced. Good luck and please let me know your thoughts on him or your understanding of his teachings. I travelled from Toronto to Miami in 89 and 90.

After 30+ years of golf, I took my first lesson last week end while visiting Kansas City. The instructor was a graduate of Ballard's school. Here's how it went:
I picked out a narrow area between two of the yardage markers on the range and told him that if I could keep the ball in that area, and hit it 235~250 yards, I would do very well on my home course. (The area was about 2/3 the width of our narrowest fairway.) He had me hit about 5 balls with the driver and watched my swing. Of the 5, two were way outside, two were marginal and one was about down the middle.
He then started showing me what I was doing wrong and had me adjust my swing/stance/alignment, one glitch at a time. My feet and shoulders were on different lines (I was compensating for my fade by lining my shoulders to the left of my feet). My left elbow was flying out on the downswing (from trying to pull the club through with the left side). My right shoulder wasn't low enough at impact, again, from the left side pull, and my swing plane was too flat.
After hitting a few balls on each correction, things started to work well and by the time the lesson was over, I was hitting about 85~90% of the balls into my chosen target area. Also, I knew instantly what I had done to miss the ones outside my target area...usually something to do with my left side. I was also hitting the ball about 200 yards into a 30 mph head wind so I was pretty happy with the results, considering I haven't hit a ball for 5 months and am recovering from surgery on my right shoulder.
The idea of powering the club with the right side instead of pulling with the left side went against everything I thought I knew until I remembered that I have a pretty fair short game, and use my right side to power my wedge shots.
I will have to see how things go when the season starts and I actually get on the course, but right now, it looks like he helped me a lot with my long game. Will keep you posted.
