Forgot, Prosimmon hybrids, graphite shafts, 15, 18, 21, 24 degree.

bottom dollar, but if the hydrids add a lot to my game, I will probably add some bafflers. I am curious about the Bobby Jones hybrid's though. If anyone has had a chance to play one I'd love some feedback.

Golf balls Clubs, all the equipment is highly overrated and the prices are out of control. 70 to 80% of major clubmakers overhead is due to advertising. Find your dream set of clubs and then go to Golfsmith.com and look at the prices for the shafts and grips your dream set comes with. Say GolfSmith sells a shaft for 15 bucks and a grip for 3 to you an individual. TaylorMade,Cleveland, Callaway Ping etc are not buying individual shafts or grips, they are buying them direct from the manufacturer, in huge quanities.. Cutting out the middleman (golfsmith in the example) and getting them at deep discounts. I would be willing to bet that a 3-PW set of 800 dollar irons, 8 Irons, Standard steel shafts, standard grips for whichever manufacturer you are buying from, like you would get of the rack at Dicks or Golfsmith, I would bet that the manufacturer has less than 80 bucks in the the grips and shafts, and that is on the high end, probaly more like 50 or 60 they buy in such quanity.

So 800 bucks, less the 80 leaves 720 $ 720 divided by 8 equals 90, so that leaves us with 90 dollars in each individual clubhead?
it might cost some money to do some research and get the molds that the heads are cast from set up, but 90 bucks a clubhead? Considering that these companies are selling thousands a sets of year, and paying the tour pros countless millions to play/endorse their products, I think most should see where I am coming from. It is all hype. The ball dont matter, the club dont matter, the shoes shirts etc dont matter. How you swing the club and apply the clubface to the ball in a consistent repeatable fashion is what will make you a better golfer

Put a set of Wal-mart specials in Tiger, Vijays. Lefties, Ernie, Any tour player, Nationwide Tour, LPGA tour, any scratch golfer hands and give them a few days on the practice range and a few practice rounds and they will still be competetive.

It is all what you get used to, I played near scratch golf years ago,(1 to 3 HCP) with a set of First Flight clubs that I picked up at a yard sale. Bought a set of Pings when they first hit the market and didnt hit em any better than my cheapos. Made myself play those clubs, because that was the ticket to become a better glfer, to possibly get a college scholarship, to take my game to the next "level" played the Pings for 2 years, never got any improvement on my HCP.

I am just now starting to play again after being out of the game for years due to family commitments, some health problems, work schedule etc. I dont know about you, but I aint paying 800-1200 bucks for a set of irons, or 400 for a driver, because it aint the clubs, it aint the ball, IT IS HOW YOU APPLY THE CLUBFACE TO THE BALL in a consistent repeatable swing and practice practice practice.

I played with a co-workers set my 1st time back out Taylor Made Draws, shot a 93. bought a set of knock offs 5 through PW AW SW and LW for 200 bucks and have been playing them since, 8 rounds under my belt, proably 20 buckets of balls and several hours in the yard chipping and I am scoring 83 to 86. Playing Topflite balls from Wal-mart(packaged by Ball Hawk) in a 24 pack for 12.97. Putting with a knock off 2 ball putter from Wal-mart for 34.96. Using Dunlop No Troubles 13 degree Strong 3 metal, 16 degree 3 metal and the 5 and 7 metals . Goal is to break 80 before November 1st

Sorry for the rant, I just hate to see people think that they have to buy the "best" to get a better game, and it is not true.

I see your point but that does not apply to everyone. I play Cobra's, somebody else might play Callaways, and someone else might play wal-mart specials. If each person is equally confident in their clubs. PERFECT. Golf is massively mental, so each person should carry the clubs that he/she feels confident with. My cobras may not be any better than some generic set. But I play well with them and feel confident using them. As far as the big dollar brandsd. Well, free enterprise. More power to em. Using Tiger in a comparison in this forum could be a stretch. Tiger knows his game like the back of his hand. He is very aware of his ability and mentally solid. Not everyone is too that point. But if you want to cast your own clubheads, cool, tell me how it goes.

My point exactly gaining confidence is the key, not the club itself

I should have stressed that I was pointing this more towards the beginning golfer than someone who has more experience.

Hate seeing someone struggle with the game and then be caught up in the advertising hype of the industry, go out and spend a large chunk of hard earned money on new equipment and still struggle

Tsmith62x3, okay I see. I agree with you there. A beginner should not think he has to spend a ton on clubs to play well. Thinking he needed to would definitely be false. I just think that if a certain set of clubs makes someone feel comfortable, regardless of price, thats what they should play. But you are right, the clubs do not make the golfer, and people should not be under that impression.

I will check out that 2 ball putter from walmart

These days, you shouldn't have to pay a ton for your clubs. There are so many good, used clubs, that paying full price for new clubs is pretty dumb.

I just bought my Rescue Dual, in great condition for $55 shipped. My Odyssey Tri-ball SRT for $85 shipped on eBay (Callaway Pre-owned was the seller), and my 9.5/10 condition Callaway Big Bertha 460 (which just came in the mail today) for $172 shipped on eBay. I bought my Ping Zing 2 irons for $100 from a friend. I spent $100 on 2 barely used TaylorMade RAC TP irons. I bought a OGIO bag from Craigslist for $30.

Total spent: $542

That's hardly a lot of money for the clubs I own.
