Ever have your clubs "Fitted" and the fitter said he chopped off 2 inches off your driver. Your hitting club well, but you'd like to be absolutely sure that the measurement is what he says it is. Well here's the info:
c. Length.- The overall length of the club must be at least 18 inches (457.2 mm) and, except for putters, must not exceed 48 inches (1,219.2 mm). For woods and irons, the measurement of length is taken when the club is lying on a horizontal plane and the sole is set against a 60 degree plane as shown in Fig. I. The length is defined as the distance from the point of the intersection between the two planes to the top of the grip.

Thanks for the specs. I've never had my clubs fitted but have been thinking about getting them done. Should I expect to see an improvement in my game after having them custom fitted? If I had to choose between spending my money on a couple of lessons vs. getting my clubs fitted, what would you recommend I spend my money on first?

I haven't played with fitted clubs, but I am skeptical that they will make much improvement for you unless you have a very low handicap. You are likely to make bigger improvements by focusing on your game, especially your short game.

When you first have your clubs fitted, you will need to make some adjustments, so your game might suffer at first, but afterwards, you should find that you improve, and may not suffer from the same ailments (i.e. slice/hook) that you did before. But the key is to work on the game, not the clubs.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I figured as much. You can have the best clubs in the world but if you don't know what to do with them, it doesn't really matter. I'm pretty sure that me and Tiger can swing the same club from the same lie with very different results.
I guess it's off to some lessons to break bad habits and hopefully establish some better ones.

Yeah, he could probably hit the same club backwards and left handed with better results than we would have hitting correctly.

That's actually a great suggestion for his next Nike commercial. He has to find something to top when he juggled the ball on the club face and then whacked it a country mile.

He actually hits left handed with his club facing down (you may have to pull out a wedge and set up for a left-handed shot to visualize this) from behind a tree in one of the intros for EA Sports Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06. It is pretty amazing.

I know exactly what shot you are talking about. My kid goes crazy everytime it comes on his game. He hits is pretty crisp! Truly remarkable shot. But then again, what would you expect.

At the end of that little clip, Tiger has hit the ball off screen, and after the EA Sports voice gives the title, you hear the sound of the ball coming to rest at the bottom of the cup. Now, I bet that was just added in there for effect, but wouldn't that be amazing if Tiger had actually pulled that off from such a terrible lie?
