The Legacy Club is considered by golf publications as a top 10 course in the Las Vegas area. The 7,233-yard, par-72 course features a trademark hole--The Suits on No. 10. Golfers can tee off from a diamond-, heart-, club- or spade-shaped tee box. From the air, the tee boxes look like playing cards. The course also features a challenging three-hole stretch known as the Devil's Triangle.
Golf Digest honored The Legacy Club as one of the "Top 10 Courses You Can Play" in Nevada. It features a link-style design by Arthur Hills--with tee boxes and large landing areas that help novice players and bunkers, tiered greens and sloping fairways that challenge more accomplished golfers.
The Facts:
The Legacy's restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch. It has a golf shop and, on the back nine, a snack shop. Group lessons, a driving range, practice putting greens and a pitching/chipping area are available for patrons. Players may also rent clubs. Golfing rates can vary from $35 for a late afternoon tee time to $120 for early morning times in prime season. Rates include the greens fee, a golf cart rental and practice balls prior to play. A dress code calls for collared shirts, shorts or slacks--no jeans or T-shirts. The course is host to the United States Open Qualifying and the American Junior Golf Association tournaments.
Benefits:
The Legacy is located 15 minutes east of the Las Vegas strip, in the city of Henderson. Online sites such as Lvindex (see Resources below) offer show tickets and golf packages. Henderson is near Lake Mead and Hoover Dam and it also offers shopping, spas, museums and art galleries in its own community. For more information, go to the website Visit Henderson (see Resources below).
Time Factors:
The Legacy offers three basic rates between sunrise and sunset for playing year round. For precise rates, time and availability try the official web site TheLegacyGC (see Resources below). The course is closed for a large part of September for seeding and restoration. Rates are higher in October and November. Because of the desert, sometimes expect windy conditions.
Risk Factors:
Las Vegas is in the desert. The average high temperature from June through August exceeds 100 degrees. Golfers with health problems should not book a noon tee time in the dead of summer.
Geography:
The Legacy can be reached from Interstate 15 to Interstate 215 to Green Valley Parkway North. It is 10 minutes from McCarran International Airport. Rental cars, shuttle services for eight people or more and taxis are available from many hotels. If you plan on playing other courses, it will be cost-efficient to rent a car for golfing excursions. Make certain to get a vehicle big enough to handle your party and all the equipment.
Types:
You can arrange golf packages for one or more players online. A two-player package can cost $298. The Legacy staff arranges banquets, wedding receptions, reunions and other large gatherings at the restaurant. Banquet menus are available. Group outings of 20 or more can be reserved 18 months in advance. A full field tournament or corporate outing can also be arranged. The city of Henderson has a 10,000-square-foot convention center for larger events.
