Course Specs
With two 18-hole mini-golf courses, Dragon's Lair is ideal for those looking to make a night of it, whether on a fun date or night out with the family. With a "knight theme," the Dragon's Lair course dares putters to "negotiate this challenging medieval course." That includes a 30-foot talking dragon, the unquestioned highlight of the course, as well as a water-like moat that runs throughout the course.
Admission
Dragon's Lair is open daily at 10 a.m., though closing hours depends on season, and the courses is closed on Christmas. A round of golf for an adult is $9, $8 for ages 3-6 and ages 2 and younger are free. In addition "all-day play" (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) is $13.
Course Features
In addition to an 18-hole medieval theme (one for each course) in which each hole reveals more of the story, Dragon's Lair features Sir Alfred, a "30-foot high, fire-breathing dragon." Every 30 minutes or so, Sir Alfred must save his castle from an erupting volcano and emerges from his lair to "spit fire."
Precautions
Although a good time for the whole family, those taking in a round or two at Dragon's Lair Fantasy Golf must beware of two things in particular: The course lacks a ton of shade, and South Carolina can get hot, so pack sunscreen and wear cool clothes. Also, the course is located on popular Broadway at the Beach and is quite the tourist attraction, so be prepared to stand in long lines at certain points of the day or during the summer season.
Area Golf Courses
In addition to a very popular mini-golf course in Dragon's Lair Fantasy Golf, Myrtle Beach is also home to several standard 18-hole courses (see Reference 3). Those public courses in proximity to Dragon's Lair include Wicked Sticks Golf Link, Prestwick Country Club, Island Green Golf Club and Heron Point Golf Club.
