Why Cruise the Bahamas?

Why Cruise the Bahamas?
Taking a cruise to the Bahamas is about a lot more than simply sitting on a boat and looking out the porthole windows at the ocean. Cruise ships feature several dining and entertainment options. Likewise, when the cruise ship docks, there are opportunities to see things on the island that you may never have seen before.

Golf

Because ships that cruise the Bahamas dock at places on the islands and give travelers the opportunity to see sights there, you can have the opportunity to play at one of the golf courses on the islands. If you dock on the Grand Bahama Island, you can golf at the Lucayan Park Golf and Country Club. Dick Wilson designed this course, which is the oldest golf course in the Bahamas. This is a par-72, 18-hole course. There are about a dozen golf courses in the Bahamas.

Shore Excursions

You can choose from dozens of shore excursions to take upon arriving at one of the ports in the Bahamas. Some of the activities include swimming with dolphins, taking private boat rides, going on snorkeling adventures that allow you to get close to tropical fish and stingrays and taking tours of the historical sites in the area.

Weather

Sometimes it can be hard to plan a golf trip because of the varying weather conditions. However, if you cruise the Bahamas, there is less of a chance that you will get unexpected weather. In fact, the Gulf Stream and trade winds help the Bahamas maintain an even temperature throughout the year. The temperature throughout the year stays at an average of between 70 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

Proximity

There are cruises that go to all kinds of destinations, including Europe, the Mediterranean, Asia and Alaska. However, for most people who live in the United States, taking a cruise to the Bahamas is easier because you do not need to take as many vacation days to use for travel to get to the dock. There are several ports along the East Coast that you can use to board a cruise to Bahamas, including Baltimore, Maryland; Norfolk, Virginia; Charleston, South Carolina and several ports in Florida.

Time Frame

When you take a cruise to the Bahamas, you can choose the length of stay. Some cruises last as few as three days. There are other cruises that last around two weeks. If you hope to play a lot of golf while on the cruise, consider taking a cruise that lasts a week or two. The shorter trips do not typically stay at the ports long enough for passengers to play much golf.
