Facts
Most supplements targeted for golfers are designed to help them prepare for a round, replenish during a round or recuperate after a round. These supplements attempt to provide energy and help golfers fight muscle fatigue and maintain their focus and concentration.
A supplement such as Sport Specific Performance Golf Focus Capsules contains ginko biloba, omega-3 fish oil and vitamin B. There also have been multiple studies showing the mineral phosphatidylserine may help speed recovery and prevent muscle soreness. Gatorade claims its line of Tiger Woods drinks has an additive called theanine that helps golfers focus during a round. Golfers can also buy vitamins over the counter. Vitamin B12 supposedly boosts energy and vitiamin D is said to promote healthier skin.
Benefits
Supplements are designed to help golfers maintain their focus during a round, but more importantly, during a shot. Many teaching pros believe that focus is what the typical amateur golfer sometimes lacks. Some pros even encourage using these supplements.
Considerations
Golfers might also consider simply taking a generic brand vitamin or vitamin pack. Brand name or generic, all vitamins include the same minerals that may or may not help a golfer prepare, play and recover better.
Misconceptions
One misconception is that supplements, are generally used to bulk up, to build lean muscle. That's not always true. Some are golf-specific.
Warning
Do not take just any supplement without talking to a nutritionist or a doctor.
