Head Specs
The Big Bertha 460 HT driver boasts an all-titanium clubhead. Among its notable features is its modified version of Callaway's special S2H2 Bore-Through hosel (S2H3). The design shifts a significant portion of the head weight away from the hosel and heel and distributes it to the perimeter. Callaway claims this allows for better control and increased kick at impact. With a 56-degree lie, the head is stretched to its 460cc limit, resulting in a flattened, aerodynamic crown and large face.
Face Technology
The Big Bertha 460 HT's face (2 degrees closed) is also made of titanium, using Callaway's patented VFT (Variable Face Technology) design. The face features varied thicknesses to increase forgiveness and prevent loss of distance on mis-hits.
Senior Flex Graphite Shaft
The Big Bertha 460 senior flex shaft is a graphite offering made by Aldila especially for Callaway. The shaft, the Callaway BB 460 NVS, has a low kick-point, mid-flex and standard senior torque to allow older players to get through impact without the need to make the powerful turns and hand rotations they might have been accustomed to in their stronger playing days.
Performance
With slower, controlled swings, the Callaway Big Bertha 460 HT is a solid performer. The 13 degrees of loft, light weight and low kick-point get the ball airborne quickly, resulting in penetrating trajectories. The face is responsive and extremely forgiving on mis-hits, while the perimeter-weighting keeps the clubhead square at impact and through shots swiftly.
Availability and Price
Although new Big Bertha 460 HT drivers are becoming increasingly difficult to find (as of September 2009), a number of retailers still carry them. They are also available through several used merchants such as Callaway's Pre-Owned Outlet. New and used clubs are being sold in the $115 to $150 range.
