Style
The Nike IC 2020 is a square-headed mallet putter with cutaways in the sole that both lighten the load and spread the mass around to the perimeter of the club. This perimeter weighting is far from revolutionary, but exceedingly effective engineering that spreads the weight of the club head and enlarges the sweet spot, minimizing the negative impact of off-center hits. Two-toned color combines a black putter head with a silver, stainless steel face and an alignment line along the top of the club with sharp, easy-to-see contrast.
New Design
The IC 2020 has actually been reduced in size in its latest incarnation. The earlier version was a bit oversized and cumbersome for most players and this newly tailored version is much easier and more comfortable to maneuver on the greens. The 35-inch length is the maximum in this model for the traditional style without going to a belly or long putter format.
Alignment
The IC 2020, named for the sound similarity to the phrase "I see," is designed with a stretched-out look from face to rear of the club. This offers an opportunity to create a long center line through the club that utilizes the same black/silver color contrast of the face to the rest of the club head. A satisfying look from a style perspective, this stretched length and contrasting line along the top of the club provides a clear, clean alignment aid when standing over any putt.
Face
Unlike many modern putter designs, the IC 2020 does not feature a softer material face insert. This club features a precision milled flat steel face that imparts crisp contact with the ball and a smooth, end-over-end overspin roll on the ball. The wide mallet design and perimeter weighting, again, offers an elongated sweet spot to minimize the impact of poor contact.
Price
Competitively priced for contemporary, precision putters, the Nike IC 2020 mallet putter is available in pro shops and specialty golf stores for less than $150. It is also possible to find it in online retailers for a bit less, though you should factor in shipping costs.
