Setup
The Idea A2 iron set is not strictly a full set of irons. Adams took the best of its hybrid and other game-improvement technology and applied it to a set for players who need a little extra help getting the ball into the air. The 3- and 4-irons have been replaced with hybrid clubs and the middle irons (5-7) are graduated super game improvement irons. The short irons (8-PW) are more standard issue perimeter-weighted cavity backs.
Technology
The weight distribution in all of these clubs has been moved toward the bottom and back, resulting in a club that naturally launches the ball on a higher trajectory. All the clubs also feature wider soles that float along the turf rather than dig deeply into it. This helps avoid the fat shots so many beginners are plagued with.
Shafts
The shaft--the practical engine of a golf club--comes standard in graphite, giving the player the maximum in flex and elasticity he needs to launch the ball up and out to maximize distance off both of the turf and tee.
Popularity
When this club was introduced, it was one of the few sets to come standard with a blend of hybrids and irons, making it a very popular club. The only other option for players interested in this type of setup was to retire their long irons to the closet or garage and replace them with new hybrids--an expensive choice. The Adams Idea A2 provided all of these approaches in one tidy package.
Men and Women
The A2 designed for the beginner or high handicapper regardless of sex. It is truly a club that breaks the gender barrier and could be played with equal effect by both male and female golfers. With this club, there is no need to go shopping for ladies-specific clubs.
Pricing
Originally retailing for more than $300, since this set is no longer available from the manufacturer, prices at online retailers, discount sporting goods stores and other sources of stockpiled merchandise range from under $200 to about $250.
