With the increasing internationalization of golf, countries have developed some of the most beautiful and impressive golfing resorts on the globe. With an increasing number of men and women from India entering the game in the 21st century, the country has become a haven for scenic, historic and royal landmarks of sport and golf. A golf trip to India can include fine, quality golf courses, great attractions and the most breathtaking sites in the country.

India's Oldest Golf Clubs

Golf began in India in 1827 with the building of the Bombay Presidency Golf Club. The oldest course in the country, it made Indian the second country behind Great Britain to take up golf. The course is built near to the Indian Ocean and with those winds in mind. An interesting aspect of the course is an elephant pit bunker near the 16th green. The second-oldest course in Indian is the Royal Calcutta Golf Club, built two years later in 1829. It was made "Royal" by King George V and Queen Mary in 1911.

Bangalore Golf Courses

Two of the top courses in the country are situated in the city of Bangalore: the Eagleton Golf Village on the Bangalore Mysore Highway and the Bangalore Golf Club in High Grounds, Bangalore. The Eagleton is the top-rated golf course in India and is spread over an area of 168 acres on the Indian countryside. The Bangalore Golf Club is the third-oldest course in the country, founded in 1876, and features rare palm eucalyptus and gulmohar trees.

Many golf courses in India feature breathtaking views of the country's top attractions. One is the Agra Golf Club, within view of the Taj Mahal. Another course, the Jaipur Golf Club, lies within site of the historical Fort Nahargarh and the Moti Doongri Palace. A third, the Noida Golf Course in Delhi, lies on the spot of the historic Battle of Delhi, fought in 1803.
