Stats
The VA Hospital Golf Course in Murfreesboro is one of the smaller 9-hole courses that you might come across. It is 2,545 yards from the farthest tee. It is a par-35 course, with many of the holes being par 4s. The course is spread over 160 acres along the Lebanon Highway.
Participation
The golf course is very popular simply because it caters to those who cannot or do not want to play on the more challenging courses in the area. In 2007, golfers played more than 27,000 rounds of golf at the course. This equals nearly 75 rounds per day.
Price
Another draw of the course is its affordability. Whereas the green fees to play on private golf courses can be pricey, the VA course in Murfreesboro charged only $6 for adults and $5 for seniors and juniors in 2009.
Management
Although the federal government owns the course, the city of Murfreesboro has managed the course since the late 1980s. The city operates the course on a year-to-year contractual agreement with the federal government.
Potential
There has been talk among city officials about irrigating the course and installing new tee boxes, however the municipality is hesitant to earmark money for the project without receiving a long-term contract from the federal government.
