Personal Information
Conran was born May 12, 1966, in New South Wales, Australia. He stands 5-feet-7 and weighs 136 pounds. Otherwise, he lives at his home in New South Wales with his wife, Virginia, and their children, Claudia and James.
Early Career
A win at the Australian Amateur in 1989 propelled Conran to the pro ranks. He played a variety of events in Japan, Asia and the Pacific Islands, but never did well enough to earn a tour card. In 1995, he won the Singapore Open in Asia, allowing him to play in Japan's Kirin Open in 1996. That year, he went to the Japan Golf Tour's Tour School and earned his card. His first full season on the tour was 1997.
Japan Golf Tour
Conran mainly struggled during his first year, but a fourth-place finish at the Hisamitsu-KBC Augusta tournament allowed him to retain his tour card for 1998, and he has retained it each season since. A turning point was in 1998, when Conran finished in the top 10 five times on the Japan Golf Tour. His 1999 season featured a second-place finish, and he was relatively consistent in events after that point, highlighted by a 10th-place finish on the money list in 2004.
First Tour Victory
Though he had been close on a number of occasions, Conran prevailed in his first event on the Japan Golf Tour in 2004. In the Hisamitsu-KBC Augusta in August, Conran finished a shot ahead of Toru Taniguchi and Takashi Kamiyama. He shot rounds of 69, 70, 70 and 69 to climb steadily up the leaderboard from eighth to a tie for fourth to a tie for second through three rounds, then finished 7 under par.
Personal Bests
Conran's best 18 holes was at The Crowns event in 2006, when he fired a 63. He finished tied for 12th. He has twice had just 22 putts in a round and twice had 10 birdies, including The Crowns in 2006 when he shot his 63.
