Early Years
Born in Billinge, Merseyside, England, on 20 Oct. 20, 1973, David Lynn was raised playing golf in England, and grew up in his golf game during the prominence of notable English golfer Nick Faldo. Lynn began playing amateur golf in 1993 at the age of 19, and won his first large amateur event the next year at the Greek Amateur Open Championship, beating David Howell by an impressive eight strokes.
Early Career
Lynn turned professional in 1995, at the age of 21. He won his first professional event on the Challenge Tour of Europe, the second-tier tour that feeds into the European Tour. His first win was the 1997 Team Erhverv Danish Open, an individual event. His 1997 performance earned him his European Tour card for 1998, but he had a frustrating season, missing eight cuts by only one stroke each.
European Tour
His missed cuts forced him back to the Challenge Tour for 1999, where he won in a seven-man playoff at the Qualifying School to earn his way back onto the European Tour for 2000. He won his first European Tour event in 2004 at the KLM Open in the Netherlands. That season ended up being his best, and he finished 26th on the Order of Merit and in the top 100 of the World Rankings.
Lucky Ball Marker
Before his win at the KLM Open, Lynn had lost his lucky ball marker that he had used for the past 10 years. He started a new tradition with his win with a new marker that had been famously given to him by his father. The marker was his father's 1891 "Queen's Schilling," a coin that is given to English soldiers before they leave for war.
Career Accomplishments
After average years from 2005 to 2007, Lynn rebounded with a comeback year in 2008. He made five top 10 finishes and ended the season 35th on the European Tour Order of Merit. With his 2008 earnings and two top 10 finishes in 2009, Lynn has won more than $5,000,000 as a professional (as of August 2009). He has finished 10 straight years in the top 100 on the European Tour and he tied for 53rd in the PGA's Open Championship in 2003.
