Amateur Career
Before turning pro, Hedblom was a highly regarded amateur player and helped Europe win the Jacques Leglise Trophy in 1986. Other accomplishments during his amateur career include the 1986 Swedish Boys Championship along with the Doral Junior Classic and Scandinavian Amateur Open in 1987.
Challenge Tour
After joining the professional ranks in 1988, Hedblom got his start on the Challenge Tour. Hedblom won his first tournament as a pro at the 1991 Formula Micro Open. Later that year he prevailed for a second time at the Uppsala Golf International. Hedblom secured his third win in 2001 at the Volvo Finnish Open while splitting time between the Challenge Tour and European Tour.
European Tour
Although he failed on his previous five attempts to qualify for the European Tour, Hedblom earned full-time status in 1994. Hedblom went on to win the 1996 Moroccan Open and proved victorious at the 2007 Maybank Malaysian Open after an 11-year winless streak during European Tour competition. Hedblom has finished in the top 50 of the Order of Merit six times with a career-best finish of 29th in 2008.
Major Championships
Hedblom has participated in 11 major events, with his best finish coming at the 1996 British Open, where he tied for seventh. Hedblom also has been in contention during multiple U.S. Opens, finishing tied for 11th in 2005 and in a tie for 21st in 2006. Barring a tie for 96th at the 1991 British Open, Hedblom has failed to make the cut in his other seven major tournaments appearances (as of August 2009).
Personal
Along with his wife, Anna, and three children, Hedblom currently resides in Gävle, Sweden. Hedblom began playing golf at the age of 6 at the urging of his father, Olle, who also has served as his longtime coach. For his career, Hedblom has compiled over $4 million in earnings.
