Early Years
Born in London, England on August 2, 1974, Davis began playing golf as a teenager and was a veteran of the country's amateur tours by 1992. He won his first and last major amateur event that year in a local London tournament--the Peter McEvoy Trophy for amateurs. He graduated to a professional career two years later in 1994.
European Tour Beginnings
Davis played on various second-tier professional tours throughout England and Europe the first three years of his professional career until reaching the larger European Tour in 1997. He played well his first three seasons, placing highly in numerous tournaments, before winning his first event at the 2000 Peugeot Open de Espana, which is the national golf championship of Spain. He would follow this win with a three year winless drought.
European Tour Success
Though he did not win a tournament in 2003, Davis went on to have his best season, placing third in the European Tour championship at the Volvo Masters. He finished ninth on the European Tour rankings that year, known as the European Order or Merit. He would win his second professional event the next year at the ANZ Championship in 2004. Later that season, he became the first European to finish first in the PGA Tour Qualifying School, reserving his place on the PGA Tour the next season.
PGA Tour
After earning his card for the 2005 season, Davis played on both the PGA Tour and the European Tour, focusing more on the PGA Tour. He finished inside of the top 100 on the PGA money list in both 2007 and 2008 and took a second-place finish at Legends Reno-Tahoe Open in 2008. He finished fifth at the Valero Texas Open in 2009. He also accumulated three top-five finishes in a row during the 2009 season.
Career Accomplishments
Davis has earned over $6 million in his professional career and played for England on the 2000 Alfred Dunhill Cup team, for England in the 2000 World Cup and won for Great Britain and Ireland on the 2003 Seve Trophy team. He has also played in all four PGA Tour majors, including a tie for 13th at the 2004 PGA Championship, 61st at the 2003 U.S. Open and an impressive tie for sixth at the 2003 Open Championship.
