About Richie Ramsay
Richie Ramsay is a golfer who competes mainly on the PGA European Tour. He was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, in 1983. He turned professional on July 24, 2007. He is a right-handed swinger and was the top-ranked amateur in the world in 2006, the first year that amateurs were ranked.

Majors

As of August 2009, Ramsay has competed in four major tournaments and has not made the cut in any of them. His most recent major was the British Open in Ayrshire, Scotland, on July 16-19, 2009. Ramsay shot a 9-over-par 149 to finish tied for 118th place. His best finish in a major came at the Masters in Augusta, Ga., on April 5-8, 2007, when he shot a 12-over-par 156 to finish tied for 77th.

PGA European Tour

Ramsay has earned $117,307 on the PGA European Tour with $110,448 of that coming as of August 2009. His best finish was a tie for 10th at the Celtic Manor Wales Open in Newport, South Wales, on June 4-7, 2009. He shot a 4-under-par 280 to finish five shots back and win $46,564.

Rankings

As of August 2009, Ramsay was ranked 148th on the 2009 PGA European Tour and was 208th in the World Golf Rankings. He was 183rd on the PGA European Tour in average driving distance at 275.8 yards, and he was tied for 34th with a driving accuracy of 64.5 percent. He was tied for 147th in putts per round with 30.3.

Other Professional Highlights

After turning professional in July 2007, Ramsay began his career on the Challenge Tour, a second-tier men's golf tour. He debuted at the Russian Open at Moscow. He played a full season in 2008 and the highlights included a victory at the Vodafone Challenge in Dusseldorf, Germany, in August and a victory at the AGF-Allianz Open de Toulouse in Seilh, France, in October.

Amateur Career

Ramsay began focusing on playing golf at the age of 14. He finished sixth at the World Boys tournament in 1999. After enrolling at the University of Stirling, Ramsay won the Scottish Universities Championship, the East of Scotland tournament, and the Scottish National Championship with a record 15 under par. Ramsay later would win the Irish Strokeplay Championship to earn a spot on the 2005 Walker Cup team. The highlight of his amateur career came in 2006 when he won the U.S. Amateur. He was the first Scotsman in more than 100 years to win the prestigious tournament.
