Courses
One of the most-visited places in the Bahamas is the Grand Bahama Island. This island includes two picturesque golf courses. The Reef Course is considered to be one of the top courses in all of the Caribbean. This is a challenging course that requires more accuracy as you get closer to the hole. Although the fairways are wide, the greens are protected by several bunkers and an unpredictable ocean wind.
The Lucayan Course causes golfers to spend more time with their drivers in their bags and instead focus on the nuances involved in their shots. The course is not long. Golfers at this course must take special care as they play on the elevated greens, around the doglegs and through the tropical woodwork.
Dining
The dining options around these golf courses can range from exquisite to ordinary, depending on what your mood is. In the Lucaya area, you can finish a day on the links by showering and having dinner at the Ferry House Restaurant. This restaurant features French Caribbean Cuisine, delicious meat and freshly made appetizers.
If you would rather relax and eat in your hotel room, you can simply order some Domino's Pizza and bring a touch of home with you to the Bahamas.
Hotels
The Pelican Bay Hotel offers easy access to either of the USGA-rated championship golf courses on the Grand Bahama Island. In fact, the hotel offers a package deal that allows you to golf on any of the Lucaya courses and have transportation to and from the courses of your choosing. There are golf packages available in other areas of the Bahamas as well. The Treasure Cay Hotel Resort & Marina also offers golf packages to play on the Treasure Cay Golf Course.
Attractions
Even if you are going to the Bahamas to play golf on picturesque courses, make sure to take off the golf blinders and see what other things the Bahamas has to offer. Spending at least one day relaxing at the beach is a must. Snorkeling, biking nature tours and jeep safaris are other things you can do to relax.
Travel
Traveling to the Bahamas from the United States can take only a matter of minutes from the United States. A flight from Miami takes less than an hour. Even a flight from Newark, New Jersey, takes less than three hours. Just remember to check your luggage. Your golf clubs won't fit in the overhead compartment or under your seat.
