About Hideto Tanihara

Tanihara was born November 16, 1978, in Hiroshima, Japan. He stands 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 170 pounds.

Tanihara has been the victor in eight tournaments on the Japan Golf Tour. Those victories, and the year in which he achieved them, are: the Mandom Lucido Yomiuri Open (2003); Asia Japan Okinawa Open (2004); JCB Classic Sendai and Sun Chlorella Classic (2006); Fujisankei Classic and Suntory Open (2007); and the Munsingwear Open KSB Cup and Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open (2008).

Tanihara has played in a number of PGA Tour events since 2003, including 20 tournaments in 2005. But the highlight of his PGA Tour career was in 2007, when he tied for fifth place at the British Open Championship. He finished 11 strokes under par and won nearly $300,000.

During his time on the Japan Golf Tour, Tanihara has carded both low and high scores. He has scored 63 for 18 holes on three occasions, and once used just 21 putts over the course of an 18-hole round. During a tournament in 2007, he carded nine birdies during a round.

Tanihara was married in 2008 to Ayaka Kimura, a well-known Japanese actress.
