Youth
Love was exposed to golf at a young age by his father, Davis M. Love Jr., who was a former professional player and a well-known golf instructor. Love also played ice hockey during his adolescent years, but found his passion and devotion for the game of golf early in his childhood upbringing.
PGA Tour Career
After spending 450 weeks ranked in the top 10 of the World Golf Rankings, Love established himself as a consistent fixture worldwide. He's been in contention at numerous major tournaments, including 20 top-ten finishes. He finished tied for second at the 1996 U.S Open and runner-up at the Masters in 1995 and 1999. In total, Love has 166 top-ten finishes on the PGA Tour as of July 2009 and has compiled nearly $40 million in career earnings.
PGA Championship and Ryder Cup
Love's most notable win came at the 1997 PGA Championship, and he is a two-time winner of the Players Championship (1992 and 2003). Furthermore, Davis has been selected to six Ryder Cup teams and has also participated in six Presidents Cup events. During Ryder Cup competition, Love has compiled a record of 9 wins, 12 losses and 5 ties. He narrowly missed the 2008 American squad after finishing 15th on the points list.
Other Ventures
In addition to his playing career, Love founded a golf design company and authored the book, "Every Shot I Take," which outlines lessons learned from his father in golf and in life. Love Golf Design has been involved with several courses across the country, including Ocean Creek located on Fripp Island in South Carolina and Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Family and Personal Life
Love currently resides in St. Simons Island, Georgia, along with his wife and two children. Love owns and trains horses and his daughter, Lexie, is a nationally ranked competitive rider. Love is a member of the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame and conducts charity events raising money for Safe Harbour. Following his 20th career win at the Children's Miracle Network Classic in 2008, Love earned a lifetime exemption on the PGA Tour.
